Artsy Collage
Alphabet Tiles - Hot Off the Press

Font: Calligraph421 BT Journaling: Buon Giorno! The ancient Roman city of Herculaneum is the sister city of Pompeii. Both cities were covered in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Herculaneum, a coastal retreat for the wealthy, was covered with a volcanic blast of mud moving at more than 150 mph. This sudden cover of mud preserved the city remarkably well with mosaics, furniture and even glass still intact. Currently only a quarter of the city has been excavated.

Supplies: Sea Paper - Sonnets (Creative Imaginations) Maps Paper - Sonnets (Creative Imaginations) Sand II Paper (Wubie Prints) Blue Vellum – Paper Pizazz (Hot Off The Press) Natural Sea Stickers - Sonnets (Creative Imaginations) Fleamarket Blocks BZ Letter Stickers - Sonnets (Creative Imaginations) Vellum Square Tag - Details (Making Memories) Heritage Shadow Alphabet letter - (Times to Cherish by Current) Blue/Green fiber – Adornaments (EK Success) Write ‘n’ Rub Foiling Pen (Fashion ‘n’ Foil Magic, Tonertex Foils Ltd) Sea Green Medallions Transparent Glitter (the Art Institute) Black Pen (LePlume by Marvy) Font - Missy BT (Microsoft Word) On the “Maps Paper” by Sonnets part of the Italian coastline was printed in the upper, right-hand corner. Of the Italian coastline that was printed, part of the Amalfi Coast was visible. Since I referenced the coastline in my journaling I wanted to highlight this on the “Maps Paper.” To do this, I traced the visible part of the Amalfi Coastline with sea green glitter, titled it and then ran some fiber from the journal box to the map to bring attention to it on the paper.
Journaling:
The Amalfi Coast Drive, built in the late 19th century, is one of the world’s most beautiful seaside drives. The road is built largely into the cliff side, often hundreds of feet above the sea, and connects the towns of Sorrento and Salerno together.
Amalfi was one of the most important maritime republics of medieval Italy. Most of the old town however has slid or sunk into the sea. The part that is left includes charming little streets and a beautiful Byzantine style cathedral.

When In Rome ~ April 1, 2001 While visiting our friends in Italy, we were able to take a USO tour to Rome. The tour started at the famous Colosseum. The great amphitheatre was built by emperor Vespasian and was inaugurated in 80 AD by emperor Titus. It took 8 years to complete, rises to a height of 165 feet, and it could seat 50,000 spectators. We were surprised to learn the arena floor had been made of wood. Although the floor is gone, the supporting walls for the floor and the labyrinth of corridors and rooms beneath can be seen.
